Dr. Vine Deloria, 1933 - 2005, was born near the Pine Ridge Reservation and was of Standing Rock Sioux origin. He was a member of a distinguished family and his son Philip is a respcted historian. Deloria became a leading figure in the movement to rethink American History from a Native American point of view. Beginning with Custer Died for Your Sins his books have been very influential and controversial. He taught at University of Arizona and University of Colorado at Boulder.
