On Line Research Resources on the Web 1. Library and Archives Canada

There is a growing collection of digital research materials on the Library and Archives Canada web site. If you go to http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/aboriginal-peoples/index-e.html
there is a listing of some of the collections that have been digitized or are in the process of digitization.

The complete text of the Annual Reports of the various agencies responsible for Aboriginal People in Canada, for example, is available full text for the years 1864 to 1990. The collection has a search engine that allows you to do word searches. You can for example put in St. Peter's Reserve and get a long list of "hits" or spots in the annual reports where St. Peter's is mentioned. In the early days the reports included detailed returns from Indian Agents, extensive tables and a lot of information about individual Aboriginal people. After the mid 1920's government annual reports tended to become quite short.
